[...] always too much gossip. I learnt to play tennis with them - a wonderful game. Perth itself is quite a nice town; it has fine picture theatres, and the King's Park and the Swan River are beautiful. The beaches are still a bit rough, but I enjoyed many swims. My first and longest motor-car trip - to Dongara, 600 miles in five days, shooting kangaroo, rabbit and birds - I shall most likely never forget. For six months I had a room with a Scotsman, and it was awful; then I came to the McClennens, and I must say I liked it there, because they live light-heartedly. I sometimes had a really good time and felt at home - though of course now and then it was even too light-hearted for me. Old Father had a car, so I learnt to drive, and we went on trips and picnics. Mam, Fay, Norma, Keys and Joys; the Schneider family's trip in the country was very nice too. Other girls - the Swiss one, and the South Perth one, Doda, Londner.
