These cousins weren't directly involved in the family butcher shop but due to a long tradition or family agreement still received, along with supposedly all the family, their meat complimentary! I didn't ask too many questions as I didn't want to get into trouble or get them into trouble! This arrangement had been going on for donkey's ages. I believe Robert was the butcher at this time of this visit and later the business had passed on to the second son. The will had been altered and all sorts of things had gone on!
I stayed with Bernhardt and Agnes and while there met all my uncles and was treated very well. We spent a lot of time with family stories and history. We drove to Austria, went into the beautiful Black Forest; saw the traditional wood carvings and famous clocks, all those things.

What a Metzgerei is. A German butcher made what he sold - sausage, cured and cooked meats - on the premises at the back. The trade was regulated and needed a master's qualification, which is why the shop and the family were inseparable for five generations.
