DEREK AND PAT
MEETING PAT
During this time we went dancing all the time at various town halls; that is how I met Pat. We met at the Coburg Town Hall and had one dance. Pat may have mentioned that she was going to Moonee Ponds Town Hall the next weekend so I went along. Moonee Ponds had two floors so I chased Pat upstairs, she was hiding from me! I caught up with her and I think she gave up! (Pat laughs. 'I knew he was intent!')
People: Derek, Pat
Places: Coburg Town Hall, Moonee Ponds Town Hall
Interesting facts
Town hall dances. Before television and before young people had cars, the municipal dance was how you met anyone outside your street. Most suburbs ran one on a Saturday, and a courtship that begins on a town hall staircase is the period exactly.
